When technology meets form and function

Ask anyone at Specialized and they will tell you building bikes isn’t a job, it’s an obsession. This type of enthusiasm has been key in the evolution of Specialized over the last twenty years. People who don’t ride bicycles might not understand this kind of dedication, but the men and women at Specialized agree, in order to become one of the best bike manufacturers in the world, one must be a fanatic. From the product designers to the research and development team, searching out and applying innovation is what it is all about. Specialized is a company that builds bikes the way they ride, all out with an eye towards constant improvement.

From the founding father of mountain biking

Gary Fisher grafted a mixture of road bike and motorcycle parts onto a 1940s Schwinn Excelsior and created the first reliable, low-maintenance mountain bike in 1974. Soon after, Gary founded Mountain Bikes, the first company to build production mountain bikes. Today, Gary Fisher Bicycles is one of the world's leading brands of performance bicycles sold through specialty retailers. As chief designer Gary Fisher continues to be one of the most creative forces in cycling with a bicycle line that includes highly engineered, American-made mountain, luxury and children's bikes.

Go Faster, Longer, & Stronger

Cannondale has come a long way since its birth in a crowded loft above a pickle factory in 1971, when it introduced the cycling industry's first bicycle trailer. The company grew quickly during its early years, adding cycling apparel and accessory lines along the way while also earning a strong reputation for innovation and quality. That reputation proved invaluable when Cannondale introduced its first bicycle, a touring model, in 1983, followed by a road racing model and a mountain bike model in 1984. Widely regarded as the bike industry's leading innovator, Cannondale and its handcrafted bicycles have won numerous design awards.

Taking cycling to new heights

Established 1976, in Waterloo, Wisconsin, Trek Bicycles began with five employees putting together steel framed road bikes in an old barn. Trek produced its first mountain bike in 1983, that same year, they sponsored the very first Trek team. In 1985, the company began production of aluminum frame bicycles. This technology was followed up in 1986 with a full carbon frame road bike. Trek’s ability to push the limits of bicycle design keep them at the forefront of a highly competitive industry. Their dedication to being the best culminated with the unprecedented success of Lance Armstrong and his teammates in prestigious international stage races such as the Tour de France.
